Waterloo Region is located approximately 1.5hrs drive west of the GTA and covers an area of 1369 sq km. With a population of more than 550,000 people, it is one of the fastest growing areas in Ontario; consisting of the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge (collectively called the Tri-Cities), and the townships of Wellesley, Woolwich, Wilmot, and North Dumfries. The City of Waterloo is home to 2 of the highest ranked Canadian Universities, namely the University of Waterloo and Wilfred Laurier. The region owns and maintains 16 regional forests and properties, most of which are open to the public. As well, both the Grand River and Speed River systems traverse the region, offering excellent kayaking and canoeing opportunities as well as walking trails, bird watching and cross-country skiing. The peaceful rural landscape is dotted with many historic communities, the most famous being St Jacobs, located in the heart of the Mennonite farming community. St Jacobs offers unique shopping opportunities, including its farmer’s and antique markets. For more info, visit www.regionofwaterloo.ca
